Prior to this, Azerbaijani authorities opened a criminal investigation against Mehman, cancelled his national identification card and passport, preventing him from both travelling abroad and participating in political life in his home country.
Mehman Huseynov’s family has also become the target of politically motivated persecution by the authorities.
