The case of the YouTube blogger Elvin Isayev from Azerbaijan

The government arrested blogger Elvin Isayev, known in the country for his harsh statements against the Azerbaijani president and ministers, and managed to bring him to Azerbaijan. Isayev lived in Russia and Ukraine for many years. His broadcasts on YouTube were among the most watched in Azerbaijan. In December 2019 the blogger was detained in Ukraine and brought to Azerbaijan. According to an official statement, the blogger was deported from Ukraine.

At 30 October 2020 the Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced Elvin Isayev to eight years' imprisonment.
